Is it an error or a warning? For me it looks like a warning. I rather see the translation like this: "install: l'option strip pourrait ne pas être appliquée lors de l'installation d'un répertoire"

Suppose i change the 'po' file, do i have to change all versions 'po' files?

It's an error message. I agree that the "may not be used" is misleading (from a french POV ;) A correct translation would me: les options de strip ne peuvent pas être utilisées lors de l'installation d'un répertoire

It's getting closer :-) There's only one strip option, "-s", so it should be "l'option":

l'option strip ne peut pas être utilisées lors de l'installation d'un répertoire

You may also want to consider a less literal translation:

l'option strip est invalide lors de l'installation d'un répertoire

what i don't understand is that the tracker is mentionning version Package: coreutils Version: 6.10-3 ... though on Translation Project it is mentionned 6.9.92: http://translationproject.org/domain/coreutils.html

So the question is where is the inconsistency?

There is none. The 6.9.92 prerelease contains the exact same strings as the final 6.10 release, so there is little point in announcing this final release to the translators, as there is nothing for them to do, and especially since it came just ten days after 6.9.92.

If you wish I could now announce 6.10, in the hope to wake up one or two translators. But I don't think this makes much sense, as the translations won't be used until 6.10.90 comes out, which will probably contain a few new or changed strings anyway.

appears not to have been processed, and the TP still lists 6.9.92 as the latest.

I did Cc: translation@iro.umontreal.ca, but perhaps, with the switch to translationproject.org, that address no longer works.

The address still works, and will keep on working. Sorry for not responding to your message, which would have said that I wouldn't announce it -- I must have thought that it was clear that zero string changes don't merit a new announcement to the translators.

I'll be sure to send future announcements to coordinator@translationproject.org, as recommended.
